90s90s_lithuania is the Lithuanian visual culture archive from 1990 to 2005 - an in-between period between soviet union and the European Union. Visual culture is a visual reality created by humans, not by nature - from printed ads, TV ads, magazines, music video clips, to documentary and editorial photography, architecture, urban landscapes, etc.
@90s_lithuania started as an Instagram account on April 16, 2017. It soon gained popularity as the wave of nostalgia for the 1990s hit Lithuanian society.
www.90slithuania.com is an extension of my research, it serves as an independent archive and a non-linear narrative essay collection. The non-linear essays are written with images, not words, therefore, can be openly and diversely interpreted. I am interested in how the meaning of the images can change over time and how de/re/contextualisation of the images can help to understand them. Overall, it is a nostalgic attempt to reflect on time passed, a childhood that has ended, and to reconstruct fragments of the past through imagery.
